Post & Pics by Jack McIntyre
This has been posted in the past, but some folks were asking about it, so here we go again.
About 16 years ago, I had this idea to reach out to the US NAVY to ask permission to shoot a motorcycle on the deck of the USS New Jersey. What could it hurt to ask, right? I expected a “no”, but to my surprise, I was invited to do so almost immediately. I then thought, hmmm, if they were ok with one motorcycle, what if I brought 5? Again, “bring them on” they said. So we did. I invited a few great friends with some Killer choppers, ignore the bright sunlight of the shots, it was coming directly at my lens and I couldn’t get the ship turned around… lol.
The USS New Jersey sits on the New Jersey side of the Delaware river in Camden, NJ just across from Center City Philadelphia.
As you can see below, the massive guns of this incredible warrior make these 10 – 12′ choppers like like toys.
USS New Jersey (BB-62) – United States Navy Battleship
The Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial, in Camden NJ, is currently open for tours every day of the week from 10AM to 5:30PM. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO.
The Museum regularly ranks as one of the best museums in NJ, one of the best things to do in Philadelphia, and serves as an entertaining attraction in New Jersey for families. Not only do you see exhibits of artifacts from the largest battleship’s past, but you are put into the exhibit as you go through the tour route. Sit in the chair from which Admiral Halsey commanded the biggest battleship and the 5th Fleet. Stretch out on the bunks where the sailors slept. Climb into the 16” gun turret and learn how the projectiles were loaded. The New Jersey is one of the most interactive U.S. battleship museums.
The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial provides an up-close look at our nation’s military history. Guests of all ages and interests will enjoy their visit to this floating U.S. Navy museum of our nation’s largest battle ships ever built. From World War II to Korea, Vietnam and active duty during the 1980s, this is among the can’t-miss U.S. Navy museum ships open to the public today. A wealth of history along with engaging activities aboard our battleship museum awaits! This is a true crowd-pleaser among attractions in New Jersey for families. If you’re looking for things to do in Camden, NJ or even what to do in New Jersey, the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is among the best museums in NJ!

The pics above hardly show it, but the bikes were so big, they clogged up the freight elevator on the ship even causing one of the elevator doors to come off. It GoPro cameras were available back then, it would have been a hilarious video to have had one attached to one of the bikes for the trip up from the dock, and then maneuvering it through the ships corridors.
I encourage to watch the video below on the history of this vessel and to support the ships “facelift” if you can. It’s a wonderful piece of history to walk through, so donations are needed to keep it that way.
